I have been involved in social media now for about 4 years. It started off with being involved in an online hockey league and it has now expanded to being involved in Facebook, Twitter, Forums, blogging and a few other places. Through all these different mediums I have made some great friends. Friends that I would have never met otherwise.
3 ways social media has impacted my life
1. Accountability.
Even though I quit participating in the online hockey league three years ago I still connect with a few guys from it. They have become dear friends to me. One of them is my friend Joe. Joe is a Christian brother who lives in Chicago. As I have got to know Joe better he has become one of my accountability partners. He has permission to speak into my life and I appreciate it very much.
2. Coaching/mentoring.
Through a pastor’s forum I met my friend Chris who is now my coach and mentor. He has been a huge part of my growth since I came back from my medical leave 3 years ago. He has helped me work through some difficult issues and he continually challenges me to stretch myself.
3. Support.
Through all the different social media platforms that I am involved in I have met many great friends who are a constant support to me. I don’t have the space to list them all here but I hope that they know who they are!
When I have a prayer need I know that these friends will pray for me. If I need some encouragement, these friends provide it. If I have questions, these friends will help provide answers. I am so thankful for everyone’s support!
Even though, I have never met any of these people face to face (I hope to one day!) I have been greatly blessed by their involvement in my life. Without social media I would have never had the chance to meet these wonderful people who have become a significant part of my life.
How long have you been involved in social media? How has social media impacted your life?
