Last week was Kid’s Camp at our church. We had an awesome time. We had over 60 kids who participated! We were blessed to have a group from another church come and help us lead it. We couldn’t have done it without them!
The theme of the camp was: everyone can be a hero! The kids learned that they didn’t have to be someone special or have special abilities to be a hero. They learned that even kids can be heroes.
To make this point, we looked at different stories from the Bible of unnamed heroes (many of whom were kids) and what characteristics they demonstrated.
Our theme verse was 1 Timothy 4:12,
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example in all you do.
5 characteristics of a hero
1. Heroes do the unexpected – young servant girl (2 Kings 5:1-14).
2. Heroes take action - shepherds (Luke 2:1-20).
3. Heroes step out on faith – an army officer (Matthew 8:5-10, 13).
4. Heroes save the day – young boy (John 6:1-13).
5. Heroes stand for truth – young man (Acts 23:12-24).
These are 5 characteristics that everyone can exhibit. It doesn’t matter how old you are. It doesn’t matter what place you have in society. It doesn’t matter what abilities you have or don’t have.
Everyone can be a hero!
How can you be a “hero” today?

I can imagine everyone had fun with this theme, thanks for the excellent verses Kevin!!
It definitely was a fun theme to work with!

Hello Kevin, I’m sure those kids received a very valuable life lesson. I agree, everyone can be a hero! These characteristics and values should be taught more often than they are. Thanks for sharing.

Oh I love the subject of heroes. I especially enjoy telling stories about how one person choses to make a difference in the lives of others and in doing so changes the world. Most of the news we have thrust upon us highlights the evil in the world. The good news is there are actually many people who are good and quietly working to make a difference.

We definitely need to highlight the behind the scenes heroes more often.

We all are heroes, we just need to pick up a role and the movie. Every single day we tackle many problems, bigger, smaller, we should find a way out of situation. Everyday problems make us heroes.
Yes they do!

When it comes to the subject of girls or boys in the Bible that can be heroes, the first one that comes to mind is David (from David and Goliath).

Yes, David is an excellent example of someone who was a child hero. He is actually a great example of all the characteristics that I mentioned in this post.

Does this count? I was curious…
1. Heroes do the unexpected- prayed to help a friend of mines and his band. God answered.
2. Heroes take action – Looked up information on whom to speak with. Emailed two people.
3. Heroes step out on faith – Heard back from one person and then shared information with my friend. Others begin to email me as well asking about my friend’s talent.
4. Heroes save the day – Friend preformed live, was received well and hailed a hero even though it rained that day and only a handful of people were hanging around yet he still played. I had the opportunity to speak with yet someone else about my friend’s band.
5. Heroes stand for truth- Had the opportunity to speak to a business owner about my friend’s band and was given (freely) someone’s name and cell number to contact for future use and the owner came outside to listen to my friend.
That’s awesome Lisa! Those are definitely great examples of being a hero.
