A lesson from Charlie Brown about Christmas

A Charlie Brown Christmas

I love Charlie Brown.  He is one of my all-time favourite cartoon characters.  I think there are a lot of lessons we can learn from this young man.

One great lesson is found in the movie “A Charlie Brown Christmas“.  In the movie, Charlie Brown, in total frustration,  yells out these infamous words:

“Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?”

Sadly, he has a point.

There are many who do not know what Christmas is all about.

For many, Christmas is just a time to spend money they don’t have on people they don’t even necessarily like that much.

For others, it is just another day on the calendar.

But for those of us who are followers of Christ, Christmas is the day that we remember that God chose to move in next door, into our run-down beat up, world-weary neighbourhood!

Christmas is the day that we celebrate God loving us so much that He became one of us so that we might one day live with Him!

Christmas is the day that we worship the One who came so that He could take our punishment so that we could have a relationship with Him!

In all the hustle and bustle of your celebrations over the next several days don’t forget what Christmas is all about!

  1. you should read The parables of the peanuts. I found a copy at a thrift store. i just checked on line its still out there….if you havent already read it.

    • I am going to have to check that book out! Thanks for mentioning it Stacie.

      • Well if you like the Peanuts (who doesn’t?)
And if you love God (You do)
And get that Charlie Brown feeling trying to express yourself (everyone sometime)
You should really enjoy it. It’s very cute, deeper than you would expect, and funny. Much like the Peanuts lol

  2. I like these lessons for Christmas!! For me it is an occasion to be with my family:)

  3. It is indeed true that people today are still truly searching for the meaning of Christmas. Thanks for the reminder to be ever ready yto share the true meaning.

  4. A dear “young” friend of mine — nearly 30 now — until she was in her late teens did not know what Christmas was about. Thought it was just a made-up story. When she was told the truth, she came nearly instantly to the Lord, b/c she saw that life-change as real. If that was a U.S.-born and raised girl, who knew none of the truth, how can we be surprised if others don’t either? Spend time “hmmm-ing” about this. Need to share the truth more quickly and straightforwardly than just meet obligations and responsibilities to purchase enough and make people happy. Material gifts won’t last through eternity.

    • A few years back I met someone who did not know the real story of Christmas and I was absolutely shocked. Sadly, I am meeting more and more people like this.

We need to make the most of every opportunity to share the real meaning of Christmas.

      Thanks for sharing Joanne!

  6. Hello Kevin

God moved in next door because of his love for people. Through Jesus God revealed his character. The revelation is seen in the face of Jesus. In this love we discover the greatest gift ever given. Thanks for reminding us of the real meaning of Christmas

    Thanks
