Last week I was at my denomination’s regional convention. This is why I haven’t blogged much over the last while. One of the theme’s that came up many times over the course of the convention was: dreaming big with God.
At one of our sessions I was challenged afresh and anew by these verses:
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21
What God is able to do according to these verses?
Let’s break it down bit by bit.
He is able – that is there is nothing that God cannot do.
He is able to do – that is God is not idle or asleep, but active in our lives.
He is able to do immeasurably more – that is His expectations are higher than our requests.
He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask – that is He listens to our prayers.
He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine – that is God reads our thoughts.
He is able to do this according to His power that is at work within us – that is God does all this through the power that is already in us.
The phrase translated “immeasurably more” here literally means, “superabundantly, with more added to that.” That’s like saying more than more than.
God has enough power to do immeasurably more than we can ask or think with more added to that!
The question we have to ask ourselves is: Do we really believe this? Do we really believe that God is able to accomplish immeasurable more than we can ask or imagine?
I have to confess that my actions have demonstrated that I don’t always believe and act according to this truth.
I have tended to dream about things that are within my control and within my realm of accomplishing.
God has been challenging me in this area for a while now.
I want to dream big with God!
I want to step out in faith with God to pursue these dreams!
I want to eagerly anticipate and expect God to show up in big ways!

What timely post for me! God has been calling me to do some big things – things that I could never do in my strength. But He is able to do immeasurably more!!! I saw that demonstrated this weekend. Amazing God! I want to continue to dream big with my BIG GOD!

I thought of an old Jesse Duplantis CD I had on almost the same text. This was close to 15 years ago when he spoke those words on Ephesians 3:20-21. It had the same sentiment that we just don’t believe that God is able.

Thanks for the reminder. We’ve named our business “Ask and Imagine” to continually remind ourselves of God’s thoughts towards us that are Good and more than all the sand on every beach on every ocean and every dune in every desert.
Just reading your post made me pause to just soak that in a bit more…wow…we’ve got such a good God.

Wow, Kevin. This Scripture has been on my mind and heart lately, so it was great to see it reflected here. I recently read Bruce Wilensen’s little book on thinking big, The Prayer of Jabez. And it’s amazing how, in the daily routine of life, we forget to keep on praying and thinking and dreaming BIG

Thanks for another inspiring post which echoes why Jesus came which was so that we can have life and have it to the full. Therefore, since we have a God who is able to do so much, we should not squander our lives in mediocrity when all we have to do is to ask and stretch our faith to fit our big requests.

The IS one thing God cannot do. God is unable to lie. Not trying to split hairs! But, the bible says he cannot do this. It is a something I find extremely comforting!
