Great friends are a blessing

Ecclesiastes chapter 4 verses 9 and 10

Great friends are indeed a blessing!  We have been blessed numerous times by our friends.  Most recently was the last 12 days.

At the end of 2011 Lauren and I finalized our plans to get away together for 12 days at the end of April and the first week of May.  In these 12 days we were going to be at our Regional Convention, visit my sister in Ottawa and then go to New York for the Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Conference.

To make such a trip happen we needed child care for our three girls.  My parents have always graciously offered to do this for us and this time was no exception.

The best laid schemes of mice and men often go awry

Unfortunately our best laid plans went awry.

My step-dad’s cancer came out of remission in March and he began chemotherapy treatments.

My parents were not able to come anymore.

Up to this point we had only left our girls with my parents for any trips that were more than a few days so we were not sure if our getaway would be possible anymore.

This is where great friends stepped in!

I get by with a little help from my friends

Our good friends Shawn and Nadine and our good friends James and Leanne offered to look after our girls for us so we could still get away.

That is a long time to look after someone else’s kids and we are so thankful for their gracious and generous provision.

Our girls had a great time and we were able to enjoy our getaway!

Great friends are a blessing!

How have you been blessed by great friends recently?

  1. We were VERY disappointed it didn’t work out for us to stay with our beautiful granddaughtersIt was a huge relief for us

We were VERY,VERY disapponted that we were not able to stay with our beautiful granddaughters, and concerned as to what would happen with your planned trip. What a relief for you and us when your amazing friends stepped in to help. You certainly are blessed to have these wonderful people supporting you like they do. Wishing many blessings to them!

  2. Kevin I agree our friends are indeed blessings. Treasure we need to look after and not take for granted.I have some wonderful friend whom I love and value. My world would have a lot less colour without them in it. I can recall many times both in celebration and in difficult times, when my friends standing beside me sharing and caring made the moment become transformed, from being alone to feeling embraced.

  3. So glad your trip worked out Kevin. Of course I agree with you about the value of good friends. I’ve known some of my friends so long we have literally grown up together – and no matter how long it may be between visits, once we’re together it’s like we’ve never been apart. Real friends are truly a blessing.

  4. Friends are our reflections in life. We are very blessed to have friends as they will be our guide on every step that we do, and advices as well.

  5. Thanks for this very interesting post. I’m just curious about it.

  6. That is why we have to value them and never trade them for material things. Friends forever :)

  7. Your luck to have friends who will sacrifice their time and money for your children. I hope you repay them when the time comes when they need your help.
