I love inspirational stories! Recently I came across Massoud Adibpour’s story “Honk if you love someone”. Massoud is a young man on a quest to make the people in his city (Washington DC) smile.
Like in many big cities, people in DC are busy, focused, and usually on their way to something or someone. But Massoud is determined to brighten their days.
So every Monday morning Massoud picks a spot on a busy street and holds up signs like:
- “Honk if you love someone”
- “Today is awesome”
- “SMILE”
Some people ignore him, some people honk or wave, but to some people he’s actually making a difference.

Watch the short video below to see how a simple act of kindness can change people’s lives.
We all can brighten someone’s day!
Standing on a busy street corner with an encouraging sign is not the only way to brighten someone’s day. Here a few more ways you can brighten someone’s day today:
- Smile at everyone you see.
- Compliment someone (and mean it).
- Greet everyone you see.
- Help someone pack their groceries into their vehicle.
- Let someone go ahead of you at the grocery store.
- Bake cookies for your neighbour.
- Pay for someone’s coffee.
- Say “Thank-You” to those who serve you.
- Send a hand-written note for no reason to your spouse, children, mom, or best friend.
- When someone is talking to you listen to them.
What can you do today to brighten someone’s day?

Great reminder, Kevin and love the story. There is so much we have little or no control over, but in the midst of that knowledge, we can make a difference to others in the smallest of ways. Great stuff! Thanks.

HI Kevin, You did a great job with this story today. I was taught to always give freely and it has always paid off for me. I do live in the north woods of Wis and there are quite a few retired people that live here. I do have a few retired army guys that I help out on a regular basis. They both lost their wife within the past few years and neither of these guys are the happiest of fellows. But by the time I am done with them they are well on there way to having a much better day. I just go in always with a SMILE of course and mostly just listen to their stories. Oh I do occasionally bake them some cookies or mop up their floors for them but for the most part I am just their to make their lives better… There is so much sadness in this world Kevin and it really doesn’t take a lot to make people HAPPY! I do love your saying “We all can brighten someone’s day!” This is OH SO TRUE and it doesn’t cost us anything to do.. Thanks for sharing Chery
That’s awesome Chery!

Love it, Kevin. And having lived in DC for 10 years, myself, I can totally relate to how something like this would be a HUGE positive for people trying to make it through traffic on the way to and from work!
Wouldn’t it be cool if every city had a bunch of people who were willing to go out and spend their time doing something like this throughout the city. What an impact it could have! Thanks so much for sharing.

Oh I’m with you Kevin – I love stories like this! Did you know that sign holding is a tradition in Hawaii? Seriously, whenever there’s an election or anything big going on people (usually a LOT of people) gather along the roadway and hold signs. I’ve actually circled around the blog just to read all of the signs
