How one small act can impact a life

Last night I was greatly challenged by a video that my friend Joe sent me of an interview he did (that was used yesterday at this church) recounting a story of how God used him to impact someone’s life. There are two parts to the interview and you need to watch both to get the full story.

We don’t know how our actions are going to impact and influence others. What we can know is this: if we don’t do anything there will be no impact or influence! I sometimes wonder about how many opportunities I have missed to impact or influence others because I was “blind” to the opportunity (i.e. I was distracted with other things) or because of just plain selfishness (i.e. I didn’t have “time” to help, what I was doing was of more “importance”, etc.) I could have influenced the guy on the side of the road with the flat tire but I drove right by. I could have influenced the kid fundraising for their soccer trip but I brushed them off. I could have influenced my neighbour by helping him unload his firewood but I pretended that I was busy at that moment. The list could go on and on. It can be very depressing if I dwell too much on this which is not my goal. My goal is to recognize that there are many opportunities to influence and impact others throughout my day and I need to open my eyes to them (or have them opened for me). I want to be available (as Joe was) to be used to influence and impact those that God puts in my path.

Are your eyes open to the opportunities that God puts in your path to influence and impact others?

  1. Thought provoking blog. Thank you. Life is filled with opportunties. I especially want to be available to be used in ways that will glorify God…I give back from the bounty He has given me.

  2. hello Kevin, KenC here, Grace— (Strong's) Charis—- The Divine Influence upon the heart and the reflection in the life.
God stopped by and helped us when we could not help ourselves.
He showed us mercy and through showing mercy he gave to us —– GRACE , his Divine Influence. Influence, Example!
I become as my Father lives before me and I exercise what I see him do. —- That is the essence of grace.
I didn't get to view the videos but what was written stirred me. thanks. KenC from Arkansas.

  3. Sorry it has taken me so long to get over here today, It's a long way to Canada, you know!

Awesome post Kevin. You're right, it is very similar to my post today… It's so funny how God says the same thing to two different people at the same time….. It's almost like it's not a coincidence!

    God bless,

    Peter

  7. Thanks for the post Kevin.

Sometimes we need to be reminded as what role we should play once we've surrendered ourselves to Christ. Although it seems to walk that extra mile and a little bit difficult, I think we have to carry our cross everyday, and live like how Jesus did. After all HE died for us.

    Love u Kev.

    Praise God.
