A dose of inspiration

inspiration

Yesterday, I had the privilege of spending a good chunk of the day with David Mainse, the founder of  100 Huntley Street.  He is on a tour across Canada thanking his supporters.  We had the honour of hosting his visit to Port Hardy at our church.

I have to confess that I didn’t know a lot about David before meeting him yesterday.  I knew about his TV show but that was about it.  I am so glad that I got an opportunity to get to know him better.

David is a man who is passionate about sharing his deep faith in Jesus Christ with others and his desire is to see God relate in a very real way to each individual’s life.  This is what his ministry is all about.  He has dedicated the last 50+ years of his life to sharing the Good News of salvation.

What impressed me most about David is his willingness to change and innovate.  He has not been content to just keep doing the same things in the same way.  Throughout his 50 years of ministry on television he always been on the lookout for new means and new ways to use media and technology to spread the Good News of salvation.

I was greatly inspired yesterday as 75-year-old David Mainse gave me and a group of pastors a passionate talk about using the Internet and other forms of technology to further the Kingdom of God.  Most 75 year old’s don’t even own a computer!

David has been very willing to change with our changing world.  His message has never changed but his methods and means have.

It is so easy to resist change.

It is easy to fear change.

I hope when I am 75 I will have the same willingness and desire to adopt change and to innovate as David Mainse.

  1. That is awesome! In anything we do, I think it is important to be willing to change, not change your beliefs, but be open to trying different approaches. I think that is God’s work in us. My husband inspires me. We have been struggling financially since he fully invested in our own company and we have had many door sshut in our face, but he is opening his heart to God and allowing God to work through him! I am a stay-at-home mom and he has Faith God will take care of us.

  2. Hi kevs, this is really great, I’ve got something Idea, and for me change is not really easy to do it, you must think twice before you do it.

  3. There are several close people to me who inspire me: my son, my uncle, my mom. But one person who inspires me that I would have never thought of as an inspiration is my friend Samatria. I’m 28, Samatria’s 29, but she looks like she’s 20 years old. Sometimes she acts as if she is very naive. Samatria has been obtaining her Bachelor’s degree for the last 10 years now. It’s been a hard road for her. I and others would always tell her to “give up – this isn’t for you. If you were supposed to be a nurse, you would have been one by now.” But she never stopped. She doesn’t have a car, she rides the bus to school and to her retail job almost every day. And she attends church 90% of Sundays out of a year, on the bus. She doesn’t argue with us when we tell her she should find another career. She says “God told me I would be a nurse; there is nothing else I want to do.” And we would fall back. She had a hard time passing her classes; but she is doing much better academically this year. I told her ‘baby girl, you are DETERMINED.’ That is a character trait that cannot be bought. Some of us are gifted; but few of us are DETERMINED and patient. She is truly an inspiration to me and I thank God that she is tougher than she looks and showed ME that she is tougher than I thought.

  4. Thank you Kevin for this post. It truly is inspiring to read about people who are passionate with sharing the Good News. Technology has made it so much easier these days and we need to take advantage of that as much as we can.
