Lessons from New York Part 2 – Finding direction

April 17, 2008 — 1 Comment

During my time in New York City, many things made an impression on me. I would like to share some of these things over several posts. If you have read any of my posts about my journey to New York, you will already know that I got lost in my travels. That first day travelling around New York was definitely stressful for me. Getting lost was my number one fear in going to New York. I have never been good with directions and getting around in unfamiliar places (my wife can attest to this). So when I got lost, I was beginning to feel quite anxious. The crazy thing was that for most of the time that I was lost I just wandered aimlessly. Instead of asking for help, I figured that if I just kept walking or riding the subway I would eventually get to my destination. I know now that wouldn’t have happened. I HAD to ask for directions. If I continued on in MY way I would probably still be wandering around New York City :)

Unfortunately, I find myself living my Christian life like this WAY too often. I figure that I can find my way around life on my own. Unfortunately, I end up “lost” and anxious when I do this. It is ONLY when I turn to God for direction and guidance that I make my way to my “destination.” The next time that I find myself “aimlessly wandering” in life trying to find my way on my own, I will remember my New York experience!

  1. Isn’t it wonderful the way God uses our everyday experiences to teach us valuable lessons about our relationship with Him. Getting lost in NY helped you in many ways, even though it was stressful. It is an experience you will never forget!
