Music is a great source of inspiration

music

Listening to music has always been a great source of inspiration for me.  Many blog posts and sermons have been written because of songs.

This past week as I was listening to “The Message” on SiriusXM Satellite radio Chris Tomlin’s song “Our God” came on.  I have always loved this song because of what it expresses.  Take a listen to it yourself:

These words in particular stood out to me:

Our God is greater,
Our God is stronger,
God You are higher than any other.
Our God is Healer, Awesome in Power,
Our God! Our God!

2 truths

As I reflected on these words I was reminded of two important truths.

1. Nothing is too difficult for God.

I know this truth but I don’t always live my life in light of this truth.  To often I find myself doubting and questioning God’s power and His ability to help me overcome the difficulties that come my way.

I forget that God is greater, stronger and more powerful than anything that can come my way.  It’s not that God hasn’t demonstrated this truth over and over to me; it’s that I am a slow learner.

I need to be constantly reminded that God can do immeasurably more than all I ask or imagine!

2.  God’s love for me is incredible.

These words also reminded me of how incredible God’s love is for me.  The God who is greater, stronger, higher than any other and awesome in power loves me!

He loves me with an unconditional love.  I don’t have to earn it.

He loved me so much that He sent His one and only Son to die for me so that I could be reconciled to Him.  This is so amazing to me and I never want to take God’s love for granted!

Is music a source of inspiration for you?  What song has resonated with you recently?

  1. Your choices were obviously wonderful. In our present situation here in my house the phrase that fits strongly is: And what could stand against?

Day by day I need to have that phrase imbedded in my heart, soul, spirit.

Thanks for sharing that song. I’ve heard it before, but never saw the lovely scenes attached and never concentrated so hard on it.

  2. Man, I love this song. I’ve heard in on the radio and I’ll turn it ‘all the way’ up and sing and worship at the top of my lungs! It’s such a compelling reminder. Thanks Kevin. This is great.

  3. Kevin, Thank you for sharing such a wonderful inspiring song. Lately I’ve been reading one of Joyce Meyer’s books and part of it is on Experiencing the Love of God, and how we need to just accept it and live in that truth.
    Have a blessed day,
    Lynn

  4. Hi Kev’s thanks for sharing this song it was really nice I will put this to my list.

  5. I have been listening a lot to Flyleaf lately, but I still like to listen to Creed, Collective Soul, DC Talk, and Lifehouse. I find some of the songs nice and sometimes I will sit down and just listen and meditate.

Music can definitely be inspirational. When I was a teen, I use to listen to music and write poetry. I have 4 books of over 300 pages filled with poetry. Only a handful have been published, but I recently talked with my grandmother and she is urging me to group some of them and publish them.
