Many people believe that rest is inactivity. They believe that rest is just doing nothing. The problem with this is that you can take a couple of days off and do nothing and feel just as tired at the end of them as you did at the beginning. Have you experienced this before? I have!
It is true that rest can include inactivity but rest is so much more than that! Rest is an expression of the soul. It is a heart attitude.
Sometimes rest can come through activity
We need to know that sometimes rest can come through activity. There are certain activities that actually replenish us. They help bring life to our soul.
Some examples of these types of activities may be:
- Journaling.
- Reading
- Exercise.
- Spending time with our spouse and children.
- Positive hobbies.
- Connecting with healthy friends.
- Vacations.
When we don’t include these types of activities into our times of rest we won’t experience rest to its fullest.
What types of activities bring rest to your soul?

Indeed true!! The rest should never be considered as inactivity. I rest with my hobby of reading, it provides solace to me. Thanks for the share.
That’s awesome Aayna!

We all need to rest our minds and body with activities that relax us. This is exactly why we need vacations or some time out with friends who make us happy. Great share.
Great points Fatima!

I agree. I do not agree with what others say that rest or sleep is a waste of time. If we continue working without rest, we’ll be less productive even though we’re awake. Besides, you’re right. If we’re really that strict, we can just read or do anything easy while relaxing.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Vianney!

I strongly agree that rest is not inactivity. My way of relaxing is through reading books or listening to music. I don’t think that’s being inactive. We rest to get relaxed and happy. Nice share!
Great point Adrianne!
