Walking in Memphis

Lauren and I arrived late last night in Memphis after a very long travel day! We are very excited to be here and feel very blessed to be here. Three months ago when I went on my medical leave, Lauren began looking for some sort of “Pastor’s & Wife’s” retreat/conference that we could go to get refreshed and also to get some “tools” to help us in our ministry.
In her search on the Internet she found the Leadercare retreat that is put on by the Southern Baptist Convention. The thing that caught her attention was the fact that this retreat was 100% paid for (travel and everything). All the other retreats that she found cost at least $1500 (and travel was on top of that!) So she e-mailed the person responsible to see if they took Canadians and also people who were outside of the Southern Baptist Convention. They replied “yes” to both. So we printed off the application and sent it in.

Realistically we never thought that we would be accepted. The application process was very beneficial to us so we thought that if that was all we got out of this we would be content. Well, around a month later we received a letter saying that we were accepted. Again, we feel so blessed to have been selected for this opportunity.

Our hope through this week is to continue to “wrestle” through some of the issues that helped put me on medical leave and as I said earlier, to gain some more “tools” to help us in our ministry. And if the opportunity allows, we are planning to take in some of the “sites” of Memphis. Any suggestions? :-D
