We all have different traditions at Christmas. We have a certain way of decorating the tree (or when we decorate it). We have certain foods that we eat at our Christmas meal. We choose a certain day for when we eat our Christmas meal (whether it be Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or another day). We either open our presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning. The list could go on and on.
I don’t consider myself a very traditional person but I realize that I do have some Christmas traditions. I thought it would be fun to do another getting to know my reader’s post about our Christmas traditions. So please humour me by answering the following questions:
1. When do you eat your Christmas meal?
2. When do you open your presents?
3. What do you eat at your Christmas meal?
4. When does your church do it’s Christmas service? Christmas Day or Christmas Eve?
5. When you put up your Christmas tree?
Here are my responses:
1. Growing up we ate our Christmas meal on Christmas day but now our family eats it on Christmas Eve.
2. We open our presents on Christmas morning.
3. Growing up we always ate turkey with all the fixings for our Christmas meal but now our family eats salt & pepper ribs, cabbage rolls, mashed potatoes and sometimes lefse. (This is a traditional Scandinavian meal. This is what my wife grew up eating for her Christmas meal.)
4. Growing up we had our Christmas service on Christmas day. Now we do our service on Christmas Eve.
5. We don’t really have a set time that we put our tree up. It’s usually up a few weeks before Christmas.
Now it’s your turn!
I look forward to reading your responses!

On Christmas Eve we drive through the wealthy neighborhoods and look at the lights.

We do something similar too except we do it the week leading up to Christmas.
Does your family have any other traditions Michael? Meal? When you open presents?

1. When do you eat your Christmas meal? It depends on where we are at. Our family is all over the country, but this year we are just gonna do it on our own.
2. When do you open your presents? Christmas morning. My wife is a stickler about this.
3. What do you eat at your Christmas meal? One year we had burritos. I think this year it will be ham.
4. When does your church do it's Christmas service? Christmas Day or Christmas Eve? The Sunday before. We don't have a building and use a middle school gym, so this really isn't an option.
5. When you put up your Christmas tree? Day after thanksgiving.
My recent post Hold Your Arms Up
1. When do you eat your Christmas meal? Around 1 pm…can't hold the crew off any longer than that!
2. When do you open your presents? First thing in the morning. We take turns. It takes a while, but then everyone knows what everyone gets, there is no "Wha? I'm done?" And they get excited for each other.
3. What do you eat at your Christmas meal? Lasagna. 8+ years running. Not a single one of us likes"Traditional" food (Ham/turkey) so we made the switch to lasagna several years back, plus it keeps me out of the kitchen all day!
4. When does your church do it's Christmas service? Christmas Day or Christmas Eve? Depends on when Christmas falls. They always have a Christmas eve service, this year on the 26th they only have a worship service.
5. When you put up your Christmas tree? Growing up it was always on my birthday (Dec. 14th) because those were the days of live trees. Now it's usually thanksgiving weekend.
The only tradition that I have been a real stickler on is opening presents on Christmas morning. The rest I can go with the flow but don't mess with Christmas morning present opening.

I love the Lasagna Christmas meal! We did take out Chinese food last year because life was too hectic.

2. When do you open your presents? one side of the family is Christmas Eve and the other is Christmas Day.

Family tradition Kevin. My Dad was a Baptist pastor and there simply wasn't time to open presents in the morning – it was breakfast, church, lunch and then presents!
