“It is not true to say that God wants to teach us something in our trials. Through every cloud He brings our way, He wants us to unlearn something. His purpose in using the cloud is to simplify our beliefs until our relationship with Him is exactly like that of a child— a relationship simply between God and our own souls, and where other people are but shadows.” ( from My Utmost for His Highest” by Oswald Chambers)
This statement totally resonates with me! As I reflect on the last number of years of my life I see how what Oswald Chambers is saying has been so true.
The need to unlearn certain things
In May of 2007 God brought a “cloud” into my life through a medical leave. At the time it was a great trial that I wasn’t sure how I was going to get through. Through that “cloud” though I learned that there were many things that I needed (and still need) to unlearn.
I needed to unlearn:
- Faulty beliefs.
- Inappropriate responses to stress and conflict.
- Unhealthy boundaries.
- Dying to the wrong things.
Is there a cloud in your life right now? What do you think God is trying to help you unlearn through this?
